The puff stitch is a great textured stitch, and after this short tutorial, you’ll be off on your way to making puffs everywhere!

All crochet patterns and terms I use are in UK, but if you want them in US then check out this handy stitch converter.

Materials:

  • Any yarn, and an appropriate hook!

That’s it! Now grab some yarn and let’s get cracking!

  1. Foundation double crochet, or, chain and double crochet as long as the pattern requires. If foundation stitches aren’t you thing, I will be posting a tutorial next week.

2. Chain 1, then half double crochet (hdc) into next two stitches.

3.a) Yarn over hook (yoh), insert hook into next stitch, yoh and pull through (3 loops on hook). Repeat 4 times, at the end you should have 11 loops on your hook (e).

4. Yoh and pull through all loops on hook. This completes your puff stitch =) To make a vertical puff stitch, yoh and pull through the loop on the hook.

On the left is the puff stitch, on the right the vertical puff. They’re very similar, but it just depends what effect you are after =)

Now that you guys have mastered this stitch, please go and try it out in the granny square!

I also plan to release a bobble stitch tutorial ASAP so we can crochet a caffitiere cosy!
