GSG Part 7 – Simple Square

Hi everyone =) this week has gone so fast! I’ve made a few new amigurumi patterns this week, and connected with a few other crocheters (more on that later =) )

As its been a busy week, I thought we would counteract this with a simple but lovely square =)

Granny Square – Simple Square

All crochet patterns and terms I use are in UK, but if you want them in US then check out this handy stitch converter.

Materials:

  • Aran yarn in two colours – I used leftovers from various other projects I’m working on, and I honestly can’t remember if they’re stylecraft or Robin yarn! They’re definitely acrylic though =)
  • 4.5mm hook

Skills used/required:

  • Treble Crochet (tc)
  • Chaining
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Magic Ring

Row 1: Magic ring, ch 3, 2tc, * ch 1, 3 tc * . Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with ch 1 and then sl st into 3 ch from ch3. Fasten off. (12 stitches total)

Row 2: In second colour, join yarn to any ch 1 space from previous row. Ch 3, (1tc, 1 ch, 2tc) in same ch1 space, * tc in next 3 tc from previous row, (2tc, 1ch, 2tc) in ch space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with tc in next 3 st, then sl st into 3 ch from ch3. (28 stitches total)

Row 3: Ch 3, tc in next st from previous row, * (2tc, ch1, 2tc) in ch 1 space, tc in next 7 st * . Repeat from * twice more. (2tc, ch1, 2tc) in ch 1 space, tc in next 5 st, then sl st into 3 ch from ch3. Fasten off. (44 stitches total)

Row 4: In first colour, join yarn to any ch 1 space from previous row. Ch 3, (1tc, 1 ch, 2tc) in same ch1 space, * tc in next 11 tc from previous row, (2tc, 1ch, 2tc) in ch space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with tc in next 11 st, then sl st into 3 ch from ch3. (60 stitches total)

Row 5: Ch 3, tc in next st from previous row, * (2tc, ch1, 2tc) in ch 1 space, tc in next 15 st * . Repeat from * twice more. (2tc, ch1, 2tc) in ch 1 space, tc in next 13 st, then sl st into 3 ch from ch3. Fasten off. ( 76 stitches total)
