GSG Part 20 – Dolly Square

Hi all! It’s been another sunny Sunday over here in Sussex; I hope you’re all having lovely weather where you are too.

I honestly can’t believe it’s July already! And part 20 of our CAL! I’m so excited to see all of our blankets come December, but until then, here’s another gorgeous square to add to our growing collection!

Granny Square – Dolly Square

All crochet patterns and terms I use are in UK, but if you want them in US then check out this handy stitch converter.

Materials:

  • DK yarn in various colours – I’m still using Stylecraft DK yarn that I got in my order from Deramores =D
  • 3mm hook
  • Embroidery or Darning needle

Skills used/required:

  • Treble Crochet (tc)
  • Half Treble Crochet (htc)
  • Chaining
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • double crochet (dc)
  • Magic ring

I hope you guys enjoy making this square, I think it would also look lovely in all white as a place-mat for your table.

Row 0: Magic ring, ch 4 (counts as 1tc and 1ch), *tc, ch1 * . Repeat from * six times. Finish off with sl st into 3ch in beginning ch 4. (8 stitches total)

Row 1: sl st into ch 1 space, ch 3, 2tc in same space, ch 1, *3tc in next ch 1 space, ch1 * . Repeat from * six times. Finish with sl st into 3ch in beginning ch 3. (24 stitches total)

Row 2: ch 4 (counts as tc, 1ch), tc into middle (2nd) tc, * ch 1, 3tc into ch 1 space, ch 1, tc into middle tc * . Repeat from * six times. Finish with ch 1, 2 tc in ch 1 space, sl st into 3ch in beginning ch 4. (32 stitches total)

Row 3: sl st into ch1 space, ch3, 2tc in same space, *ch 1, 3tc in next ch 1 space * . Repeat from * 14 times. Finish with ch 1, sl st into 3ch of beginning ch3. (48 stitches total)

Row 4: ch1, dc in same ch1 space, *ch 1, 3 htc in next 1 ch space, ch 1 (3tc,ch 2, 3 tc) in next 1ch space, ch 1, 3 htc in next 1 ch space, ch 1, 3 dc in next 1 ch space * . Repeat from * twice more. ch 1, 3 htc in next 1 ch space, ch 1 (3tc,ch 2, 3 tc) in next 1ch space, ch 1, 3 htc in next 1 ch space, ch 1, 2 dc in next 1 ch space, finish with sl st into 1st dc in row. (60 stitches total)

Row 5: sl st into 1 ch space, ch 3 (counts as 1tc), 2 tc in same space, 3 tc in each 1 ch space, (3tc, ch 2, 3tc) in each corner 2ch space. Finish with sl st into ch3 from beginning of row. ( 72 stitches total)

Row 6: Start in corner ch 2 space, ch 1, dc in same space, ** * sk st, 5 tc in next stitch, sk st, dc, *. Repeat from * 3 times. Sk st, 5 tc in next stitch, dc in corner ch 2 space **. Repeat from ** twice. Repeat from * once. Sk st, 5 tc in next stitch. Finish off with sl st into first dc. (100 stitches total)
