GSG Part 22 – Stunner Square

Granny Square – Stunner square

All crochet patterns and terms I use are in UK, but if you want them in US then check out this handy stitch converter.

Materials:

  • DK yarn in various colours – I’m still using Stylecraft DK yarn that I got in my order from Deramores =D
  • 3mm hook
  • Embroidery or Darning needle ( for weaving in ends )

Skills used/required:

  • Treble Crochet (tc) , and long treble crochet (long tc)
  • Half Treble Crochet (htc)
  • Chaining
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Double treble crochet (dtc)
  • Double crochet (dc)
  • Chaining in a circle

Gauge:

Final square = 12cm

Row 0: Ch 20, sl st into the first ch to make a ring.

Row 1: Ch 2, *4htc into the ring, ch 5, 5htc into the ring, ch 3, htc into the ring *. Repeat from * twice more. 4htc into the ring, ch 5, 5htc into the ring. Finish off with ch 3, sl st into ch 2 from the beginning of the row. Fasten off. (40 stitches total)

Row 2: Attach yarn to any 3 ch space. ch 1, * (dc, ch 2, dc) in same ch 3 space, ch 1, (5htc, ch 2, 5htc) into ch 5 corner space, ch 1 *. Repeat from * three times. Finish off with sl st into the first dc from the row. Fasten off (48 stitches total)

Row 3: Attach yarn to the corner 2 ch space, ch 2, (4htc, ch 2, 5htc) in the same ch 2 space, * (tc, 2htc, ch 2, 2htc, tc) in the next ch 2 space, (5htc, ch 2, 5htc) in the next ch 2 space, * . Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with (tc, 2htc, ch 2, 2htc, tc) in the next ch 2 space, sl st into ch 2 from the beginning of the row. Fasten off. (64 stitches total)

Row 4: Attach yarn to corner ch 2 space. ch 4, (tc, htc, dc, ch 2, dc, htc, tc, dtc) in the same ch 2 space, * ch 1, 3htc in space between corner stitches and side stitches, 3 dc in side ch 2 space, 3htc in space between side stitches and corner stitches, (dtc, tc, htc, dc, ch 2, dc, htc, tc, dtc) in corner ch 2 space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with ch 1, 3htc in space between corner stitches and side stitches, 3 dc in side ch 2 space, 3htc in space between side stitches and corner stitches, sl st into ch 4 in beginning 4ch. Fasten off. (68 stitches total)

Row 5: Attach yarn to any stitch, ch 2, htc in each stitch around; for corner ch 2 space (htc, ch2, htc), and for ch 1 from row below, ch 1 again ( this is to allow for a long tc in the next row ). (76 stitches total)

Row 6: Attach yarn to any stitch, ch 3, tc in each stitch around; for corner ch 2 space (tc, ch2, tc), and for ch 1 from row below, long tc. (84 stitches total)

Row 7: Attach yarn to any stitch, ch 1, dc in each stitch around; for corner ch 2 space (dc, ch2, dc). (92 stitches total)
