Hi Guys, I thought for today’s square we could do a stitch sampler square. I really enjoy this stitch, the texture is great and it looks so pretty when made into mug cosy’s!

Granny Square – Diagonal Spike Sampler square
All crochet patterns and terms I use are in UK, but if you want them in US then check out this handy stitch converter.
Materials:
- Aran weight yarn in various colours – I used stylecraft aran in fondant and spice.
- 4.5mm hook
- Embroidery or Darning needle ( for weaving in ends )
Skills used/required:
- Double crochet (dc)
- Foundation double crochet
- Spike double crochet (Sdc) – also called spike diagonal crochet
- Half treble crochet (htc, optional)
Gauge:
Final square = 12cm
Row 0: Foundation dc 18 stitches.
Row 1: *Dc in the first 3 stitches, sk st, work 1 sdc into the same place that the first dc of the 3dc was worked. Repeat from * three more times. Finish off with a dc into the last two stitches. (18 stitches total)
Row 2: ch 1, turn, *dc in the first 3 stitches, sk st, work 1 sdc into the same place that the first dc of the 3dc was worked. Repeat from * three more times. Finish off with a dc into the last two stitches. (18 stitches total)
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you reach the desired height.
We finished off this square with a htc border to make up the square to 12cm.
