How To: Diagonal Spike Stitch

Hi guys, I thought I would do a how to for this stitch as it is now featured in one of our squares!

Once you get the hang of it you’ll want to make it all day long; I think the texture is great for mug cosy’s!

So here we go, grab your yarn and hook and let’s make something beautiful!

Materials:

• Any yarn and an appropriate size hook.
• That’s it!

All crochet patterns and terms I use are in UK, but if you want them in US then check out this handy stitch converter.

Row 0: Foundation dc in multiples of 4, + 2. In this example we are using 18 stitches.

Row 1: *Dc in the first 3 stitches, sk st, work 1 sdc into the same place that the first dc of the 3dc was worked. Sdc is worked in the same way as a normal dc, but, like a long/ vertical dc, a spike is formed. Repeat from * three more times. Finish off with a dc into the last two stitches. (18 stitches total)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, *dc in the first 3 stitches, sk st, work 1 sdc into the same place that the first dc of the 3dc was worked. Repeat from * three more times. Finish off with a dc into the last two stitches. (18 stitches total)

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you reach the desired height.
