Granny Square – Wavy square
All crochet patterns and terms I use are in UK, but if you want them in US then check out this handy stitch converter.
Materials:
- DK yarn in various colours – I’m still using Stylecraft DK yarn that I got in my order from Deramores =D
- 3mm hook
- Embroidery or Darning needle ( for weaving in ends )
Skills used/required:
- Double crochet (dc)
- chaining
- treble crochet (tc)
- Double treble crochet (dtc)
- Half treble crochet (htc)
Gauge:
Final square = 12cm
Row 0: ch 5, join to first ch with sl st.
Row 1: ch 3 (counts as first tc), 15 tc into ring. Fasten off. (16 stitches total)
Row 2: join to any tc. ch 4 (counts as first tc and ch 1 space), *tc into next stitch, ch 1 *. Repeat from * 14 more times. Finish off with sl st into ch3 of beginning 4ch. (16 stitches total)
Row 3: sl st into ch 1 space, ch 3 (counts as first tc), tc into same ch 1 space, ch 1, * 2tc into next ch 1 space, ch 1 *. Repeat from * 14 more times. Finish off with sl st into ch 3 of beginning 3ch. Fasten off. (32 stitches total)
Row 4: join yarn in any ch 1 space. Ch 3 (counts as dc and ch 2), dc in the next ch 2 space, * ch 2, tc in next ch 1 space, ch 5, tc in next ch 1 space, ch 2, dc in the next ch 1 space, ch 2, dc in the next ch 1 space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with ch 2, tc in next ch 1 space, ch 5, tc in next ch 1 space, ch 2, sl st into ch 1 of original ch3. (16 stitches total)
Row 5: sl st into ch 2 space. Ch 3 (counts as tc), 2dtc and tc into same ch space, * (htc, 2dc) into next ch space, (dc, htc, tc, dtc, ch 2, dtc, tc, htc, dc) into next ch space, (2dc, htc) in next ch space, (tc, 2dtc, tc) in next ch space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with (htc, 2dc) into next ch space, (dc, htc, tc, dtc, ch 2, dtc, tc, htc, dc) into next ch space, (2dc, htc) in next ch space, sl st into ch 3 of beginning 3ch. Fasten off. (68 stitches total)
Row 6: join yarn in any stitch. Dc in each stitch around. In corner ch 2 space, dc 3. Fasten off. (84 stitches total)
Row 7: join yarn in beginning corner dc. Ch 4 (counts as dc and 3ch), skip stitch, dc in last corner dc stitch. *dc, hdc, tc, dtc in the next 3 stitches, tc, htc, dc, dc, htc, tc, dtc in the next 3 stitches, tc, htc, dc, dc, ch 3, sk St, dc in next stitch *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish with dc, hdc, tc, dtc in the next 3 stitches, tc, htc, dc, dc, htc, tc, dtc in the next 3 stitches, tc, htc, dc, sl st into ch1 of beginning 4ch. Fasten off. (80 stitches total)
Row 8: join yarn in corner ch 3 space. Ch 5 (counts at htc, ch 3), htc in same corner space,* htc in the next 4 stitches, dc in the next 3, htc in the next 6 stitches, dc in the next 3, htc in the next 4 stitches, (htc, ch 3, htc) in corner ch 3 space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish with htc in the next 4 stitches, dc in the next 3, htc in the next 6 stitches, dc in the next 3, htc in the next 4 stitches, sl st into ch 2 of beginning 5ch. Fasten off. (84 stitches total)
