GSG Part 34 – Varied Simple Square no 2

It’s starting to feel more and more like winter over here now, so it will soon be time to get these gorgeous squares made up into a lovely blanket! Eee, I can’t wait 🙂

CAL – Part 34

Granny Square – Varied Simple Square no 2

All crochet patterns and terms I use are in UK, but if you want them in US then check out this handy stitch converter.

Materials:

  • DK yarn in various colours – I’m still using Stylecraft DK yarn that I got in my order from Deramores =D – For this square we are double stranding
  • 4.5mm hook
  • Embroidery or Darning needle ( for weaving in ends )

Skills used/required:

  • Treble Crochet (tc)
  • Chaining
  • Slip stitch (sl st)

Gauge:

Final square = 12cm

Row 0: Ch 6, sl st into first ch to make a ring.

Row 1: Ch 3, 3tc, * ch 3, 4 tc * . Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with ch 3 and then sl st into 3 ch from ch3. Fasten off. (16 stitches total)

Row 2: In second colour, join yarn to any ch 3 space from previous row. Ch 3, (1tc, ch 3, 2tc) in same ch3 space, * tc in next stitch from previous row, ch 2 and skip 2 stitches, tc in next stitch, (2tc, 3 ch, 2tc) in ch 3 space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with tc in next stitch from previous row, ch 2 and skip 2 stitches, tc in next stitch, then sl st into 3 ch from beginning ch 3. (24 stitches total)

Row 3: In new colour, join yarn to any ch 3 space from previous row. Ch 3, (1tc, ch 3, 2tc) in same ch3 space, * tc in the next 3 stitches from previous row, ch 2, tc in next 3 stitches, (2tc, 3 ch, 2tc) in ch 3 space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with tc in the next 3 stitches from previous row, ch 2, tc in next 3 stitches, then sl st into 3 ch from beginning ch 3. (40 stitches total)

Row 4: In new colour, join yarn to any ch 3 space from previous row. Ch 3, (1tc, ch 3, 2tc) in same ch3 space, * tc in the next 5 stitches from previous row, ch 2, tc in next 5 stitches, (2tc, 3 ch, 2tc) in ch 3 space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with tc in the next 5 stitches from previous row, ch 2, tc in next 5 stitches, then sl st into 3 ch from beginning ch 3. (56 stitches total)

Row 5: In new colour, join yarn to any ch 3 space from previous row. Ch 3, (1tc, ch 3, 2tc) in same ch3 space, * tc in the next 7 stitches from previous row, ch 2, tc in next 7 stitches, (2tc, 3 ch, 2tc) in ch 3 space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with tc in the next 7 stitches from previous row, ch 2, tc in next 7 stitches, then sl st into 3 ch from beginning ch 3. (72 stitches total)

Row 6: In new colour, join yarn to any ch 3 space from previous row. Ch 3, (1tc, ch 3, 2tc) in same ch3 space, * tc in the next 9 stitches from previous row, ch 2, tc in next 9 stitches, (2tc, 3 ch, 2tc) in ch 3 space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with tc in the next 9 stitches from previous row, ch 2, tc in next 9 stitches, then sl st into 3 ch from beginning ch 3. (88 stitches total)
