Hi Guys 😊 I hope you are enjoying your back holiday weekend. If you have been on the ‘gram lately you might have seen a few posts going around about littleyarnbunny. Unfortunately she has become seriously unwell whilst attempting to make another blanket for charity. I was originally going to post a different square this week, but I have changed the square to align with littleyarnbunnys original squares. The plan is for the crochet community to make many granny squares to make blankets for charity in honor of littleyarnbunny.

If you wish to find out more about this please go and check out stitchedupcraft; we will be making white simple squares with a rainbow motif. I will be making one for our CAL, and several for this community blanket. I hope you guys will too ❤️

Now, let’s get crocheting!

CAL – Part 11

Granny Square – LYB Square

All crochet patterns and terms I use are in UK, but if you want them in US then check out this handy stitch converter.

Materials:

  • Aran yarn in white – I got Lion Brand antique white from amazon.
  • DK yarn in rainbow colours! It doesn’t use that much yarn so leftovers from previous projects should be fine! If not deramores do a good colour pack!
  • 4.5mm hook – square
  • 3mm hook – rainbow

Skills used/required:

  • Treble Crochet (tc)
  • Chaining
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Magic Ring

The pattern is exactly the same as our simple square from part, but instead of a ch1 on the corners, it’s a chain two.

Simple Square:

Row 1: Magic ring, ch 3, 2tc, * ch 2, 3 tc*. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with ch 1 and then sl st into 3 ch from ch3. Fasten off. (12 stitches total)

Row 2: In second colour, join yarn to any ch 1 space from previous row. Ch 3, 1tc, 1 ch, 2tc in same ch2 space, * tc in next 3 tc from previous row, (2tc, 2ch, 2tc) in ch space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with tc in next 3 st, then sl st into 3 ch from ch3. (28 stitches total)

Row 3: Ch 3, tc in next st from previous row, * (2tc, ch2, 2tc) in ch 1 space, tc in next 7 st * . Repeat from * twice more. (2tc, ch2, 2tc) in ch 2 space, tc in next 5 st, then sl st into 3 ch from ch3. Fasten off. (44 stitches total)

Row 4: In first colour, join yarn to any ch 1 space from previous row. Ch 3, 1tc, 2 ch, 2tc in same ch2 space, * tc in next 11 tc from previous row, (2tc, 2ch, 2tc) in ch space *. Repeat from * twice more. Finish off with tc in next 11 st, then sl st into 3 ch from ch3. (60 stitches total)

Row 5: Ch 3, tc in next st from previous row, * (2tc, ch2, 2tc) in ch 1 space, tc in next 15 st * . Repeat from * twice more. (2tc, ch2, 2tc) in ch 2 space, tc in next 13 st, then sl st into 3 ch from ch3. Fasten off. ( 76 stitches total)

Making rainbow motif.

Row 0: In purple yarn. Chain 6.

Row 1: purple yarn. dc in 2nd chain from Hook, dc in same hook, 2dc in each chain. Fasten off. (10 stitches total)

Row 2: pink yarn. Skip stitch, attach yarn with ch 1 on 2nd stitch, 2dc in same stitch, 2dc in each stitch, until last st, which we are skipping. Fasten off. (16 stitches total)

Row 3: blue yarn. Skip stitch, attach yarn with ch 1 on 2nd stitch, *2dc in same stitch, dc in next stitch *. Repeat from * 6 times. Leave the last stitch. Fasten off. (21 stitches total)

Row 4: green yarn. Skip stitch, attach yarn with ch 1 on 2nd stitch, *2dc in same stitch, dc into next two stitches *. Repeat from * 5 times, finish with 2dc in second to last stitch. Fasten off. (26 stitches total)

Row 5: yellow yarn. Skip stitch, attach yarn with ch 1 on 2nd stitch, * 2dc in same stitch, dc in next 3 stitches *. Repeat from * 4 times. Finish with 2dc, dc in next two stitches, skipping last stitch. Fasten off. (30 stitches total)

Row 6: orange yarn. Skip stitch, attach yarn with ch 1 on 2nd stitch, * 2dc in same stitch, dc in next 4 stitches *. Repeat from * 4 times. Finish with 2dc, dc in next two stitches, skipping last stitch. Fasten off. (34 stitches total)

Row 7: red yarn. Skip stitch, attach yarn with ch 1 on 2nd stitch, * 2dc in same stitch, dc in next 5 stitches *. Repeat from * 4 times, finish with 2dc, dc in next stitch, skipping final stitch. (39 stitches total)

Cloud:

Row 0: 6dc in magic ring.

Row 1: 2dc in each stitch around (12 stitches total)

Row 2: *dc, 2dc*. Repeat from * 5 more times (18 stitches total)

Row 3: *dc, dc, 2dc*. Repeat from * 5 now 8 times (24 stitches total)

Row 4: * ch2, skip stitch, sl st into next st*. Repeat from * 10 more times. Finish with ch2, sl st into 1st st in row.

You should now have all the pieces to make your square! Now all that’s left is to attach them =D To make the squares to donate to LittleYarnBunnies blanket, they need to have 6 rows ( not 5 like the ones for our CAL). The crochet chart below accounts for this, so if you use the chart for the CAL ignore the last row =)

They’re so pretty! As you can see in the last picture I still have a few more squares to make, but I plan on making at least 5 for the charity blanket. I do hope you guys will make one for the blanket too, I’ll post pictures of the finished blankets after they’re stitches together and donated, so check back here in a few weeks to see all of our work side by side! ❤
